Introduction to Participatory Video for team, organisational and community change.
 
This is a 3 day experiential program that will give you deeper knowledge and skills in popular methods of communication to encourage learning and influence change. This training is suitable for community development practitioners, Human services workers, activists, researchers, teachers, trainers, facilitators and consultants. This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge neded for designing and facilitating participatory video processes.

At the end of the 3 days you will know how to initiate and facilitate these processes, have confidence in handling basic equipment, have increased awareness of the potential uses of participatory video processes in different contexts; be able to facilitate and support communities to overcome fear and handle video equipment on their own; acquire basic video editing skills needed for assembling video footage into meaningful messages for effective communication, be able to identify opportunities for using the outcomes of Participatory video processes.
 
The workshop uses experiential learning and uses a wide range of techniques that enhance creativity, sharing, reflection and learning. Experiential work taps into creative process and includes art, drama and music.

If you lead groups in any setting, whether at work or in your community and you wish to enhance a group’s capacity to tell its story in a real and participatory way, these skills are critical for obtaining successful outcomes. This program will be of interest to internal/ external consultants, change agents, trainers, team/project leaders, co-ordinators and managers.
 
Sample Program
 
Day One
  • Application of Participatory Video process including context and
    uses, setting up and facilitation processes.

Day Two
  • Fieldwork placement, including
    planning for fieldwork and fieldwork with a community group in
    the local area.
 
Day Three
  • Feedback and Reflective practices.
  • Ways Forward, including action planning and most significant
    change evaluation framework.

This will include a copy of the book and CD Rom ‘Insights into Participatory Video’, lunches (except Wednesday during community placements), morning and afternoon tea and coffee breaks. A DVD of all the work carried out during the community placements will also be sent to you after the training free of charge.
